My Time in Bangkok

Personal Perspective

Bangkok was our first place after traveling for almost 30 hours - so needless to say we were exhausted, overwhelmed, and beyond jet lagged. We were only in the city for two full days so we really just wanted to walk around, get a feel for the city, culture and food before moving on. We didn’t want our first experience to be jam packed with activities and “Must Do’s”. So we saw one temple, got a few Thai massages, and explored and observed. And it was fascinating.

Where we slumbered:

We loved:

  • Clean, Comfortable & Spacious rooms

  • Amenities : hotel rooftop bar (amazing), pool & workout facility (if you’re one of those highly dedicated people who workout on vacation.

  • Location: next to a metro line and, most importantly, a 7/11 for all your late night snack needs or just anything in general - especially water.

What we explored:

  • Wat Pho (Reclining Buddha)

  • Flower Market

  • China Town

  • Thai Massages ( Myth Massage)

Where we dined:

  • Chinatown - Do not miss this!  Go after 6pm and find food pouring out from every inch of the sidewalks.

  • Elefin Coffee - Very cute cafe with excellent food if you’re looking for a spot to relax your feet and connect to wifi after visiting Wat Pho.

  • Floral Café at Napasorn - Near the flower market- and tucked away in a flower shop on the second level - is an adorable coffee shop that makes you feel transported to a land of  fairytales and make believe.

  • Siam Center- Do not knock a mall food court until you have seen this one. It is huge and they have every type of food in one place. And I do not mean fast food. I cannot recommend this enough, especially if you’re hesitant on what Thai food you like. Load up a card at one of the service desks and go to town.

Where we toasted:

  • CRU Champagne Bar - Right next to the Siam Center, we got a bottle of Champagne and watched the sunset.

  • Sky Bar - Fun rooftop with a beautiful view of the city! *note*  they will try and persuade you to stop at other bars on the way up to the Skybar. Just continue to tell them you want the SkyBar and you’ll eventually get there.

  • Anywhere along the Chao Phraya River - there are tons of little bars and rooftops near the river if you walk along Haha Rat Rd and turn town any little side street - at the end you’ll find a place with a drink and a view.

Personal tips:

  • Always ask the cab driver to use the meter. Always. They will try to persuade you differently with every reason why you shouldn’t use the meter. Just use the meter. It will always be cheaper than what they are offering you. Especially to the airport.

  • One thing I wish we would have done is a food tour. Just to have someone show you around a little, give you some inside scoop on the food and history. It would have been a nice way to start the trip. I’ve done this in another city and it was incredibly helpful and fun- and obviously- delicious

  • We tried to avoid using taxis as much as possible - so we figured out how to use their metro system. It was very clean and easy to use and much better than sitting in traffic. We also walked a lot!

  • Take a Tuktuk and hold on for dear life. An absolute must.

  • Overall I wouldn't spend more than 3 days here, unless you're planning to do many day trips outside of the city.

Other cities I visited in Thailand.
